This EK2 by Hammer & Söhne has a fantastic look and great character. Very nearly all of the original semi-glossy black enamel painted finish is still present on the core, with only one tiny chip on the swastika. The core is very clean, with only very light dust, and the swastika and dates are clean. The frame on this cross is really gorgeous, with a deep, old, uncleaned patina. The beading shows slight wear, and has a gleam that contrasts very handsomely with the dark toning to the outer frame edges. The original suspension ring also shows dark toning, and is stamped with “55” in sunken relief. This is the maker code for the firm of J. E. Hammer & Söhne in Geringswalde. This cross has no ribbon, and may well have been an issued award piece. This EK2 by Hammer & Söhne is a desirable, maker marked cross, in outstanding condition.
