WH (Heer) Gas Mask with short canister type (Gasmaske M38 mit Blechbüchse M30) complete with the short and long carrying straps and a set of spare lenses (Klarscheiben). All German army personnel were equipped with a canister gas mask and accessories and had to have it ready at all times. Fear of a gas attack ensured that the canister gas mask was a constant companion to every German soldier throughout the war. The M30 gas mask was produced from rubberized canvas with metal parts, and the M38 gas mask was produced entirely of rubber, also with metal parts. This is an M38 type gas mask with an 'FE41' type filter.
