The German Dienstbrille (literally: service glasses ) were used during World War II by Wehrmacht soldiers who needed glasses to see properly — similar to what we now know as standard military prescription glasses .
The Dienstbrille quickly acquired a nickname among soldiers:
"Panzergläser" or "Hitlerbrille" – because of their characteristic round appearance that somewhat resembled Hitler's own glasses (meant ironically).
