Nice grouping belonging to Gefreiter Heinrich Lusmann, consisting of his Wehrpass together with several accompanying documents.
The set also includes his Wound Badge in Black (Verwundetenabzeichen) and Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen), both in good condition. The Infantry Assault Badge is maker-marked JFS, while the Wound Badge is unmarked.
According to his Wehrpass, Heinrich was serving with 3./Panzergrenadier-Regiment 361 in 1943, making this an attractive and well-documented wartime grouping.
Around 13 March 1944 the day of the dead of heinrich, Panzergrenadier-Regiment 361 (Pz.Gren.Rgt. 361) was stationed in Italy as part of the 90th Panzergrenadier Division.
At that time, the division was deployed south of Rome, in and behind the Gustav Line, operating in the sector between Cassino and the coast toward Anzio.
More specifically:
- After being reformed on Corsica in July 1943, the regiment was transferred to Italy.
- During the winter of 1943–1944, it fought in the battles of Ortona and along the Moro River in the Abruzzo region.
- In early 1944, the 90th Panzergrenadier Division was moved to central Italy to help halt the Allied advance toward Rome.
- By March 1944, the division was largely positioned in reserve and defensive roles behind the Gustav Line, later reinforcing the Anzio sector, where the Allies had established a beachhead in January 1944.
Pz.Gren.Rgt. 361 – Likely Location on 13 March 1944
The regiment was most likely operating in the area between:
- Cassino (Gustav Line)
- Fondi (reserve area behind the front)
- Anzio (front opposing the Allied beachhead)
During this period, the 90th Panzergrenadier Division served as a mobile reserve, supporting both the Gustav Line and the Anzio front.
