German War Merit Medal from World War II, complete with the original ribbon and the presentation envelope.

The medal was instituted by Adolf Hitler on August 19, 1940.

The award was granted to civilians (both Germans and non-Germans) for outstanding services in connection with the war effort, such as significantly exceeding work quotas in factories.

On the obverse, a Maltese cross with a swastika surrounded by an oak wreath is visible; on the reverse, the text "Für Kriegs-verdienst 1939" (For War Merit 1939) is displayed.

Approximately 4.9 million of these medals were awarded by the end of the war.
