The Sportabzeichen was originally introduced in the Weimar Republic (1920s) as a sports award.
From 1937, a swastika was added to the symbol.
It served not as a combat decoration, but as a recognition of athletic achievements (running, swimming, strength training, etc.).
There were three grades: Bronze, Silver, and Gold , depending on the performance achieved and the age category.
The set consists of a bronze version and a miniature pin, both made by Wernstein Jena, a nice set for any collection.
