Iron Cross 1st Class from the First World War (Eisernes Kreuz 1e Klasse). Reinstituted by King Wilhelm II on August 5, 1914, for presentation during the First World War. Both the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Iron Cross 2nd Class were awarded without rank. The second-class medal was awarded to individuals who had performed a single heroic act in combat. One had to already possess the Iron Cross 2nd Class to receive the Iron Cross 1st Class. The cross has a three-part construction with an iron core; this is a rare type of cross with the so-called cushion-shaped back (Waffle Pattern). The cross is beautifully marked with the 'AWS' logo, indicating production by the firm 'Albert Werner & Söhne' from Berlin. The pin and clasp are in perfect condition; the cross features the thin needle characteristic of this manufacturer. The cross is beautifully curved. Rare original Iron Cross 1st Class from the First World War in good used condition!

This EC1 comes with an original EC1 presentation box featuring a dark purple inlay and was found with this medal inside.
