Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse). The Iron Cross was reinstituted on August 5, 1914, by King Wilhelm II for awards during the First World War. Both the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Iron Cross 2nd Class were awarded regardless of rank. The 2nd Class medal was awarded to personnel who had performed a single act of heroism in combat. One had to already hold the Iron Cross 2nd Class to receive the Iron Cross 1st Class. The cross consists of three parts with an iron core and a silver frame. The pin and clasp are in perfect condition.
The cross is beautifully vaulted and in very good condition.
